I’ve been a fan of Jen Sincero for a few years now, not just because of her hilariously blunt account of life, but because of how valuable her information is to so many people. Based on her own experience, she shares what she’s learned about growth and what it took her to transform her life into the one that she desires. She has several books, but all of them narrow back down to one thing; mindset. Alongside her practical tips, she gets to the heart of the matter which is to ultimately work past a lack-mentality. As they are fairly quick and easy reads, I find myself re-familiarizing with these books every year or so.
“If you’re serious about changing your life, you’ll find a way. If you’re not, you’ll find an excuse.”

Creating anything in our world requires us to first and foremost have the right mindset in place. Many of us are conditioned to accept the way things are, or even be told by those other than ourselves what we should or shouldn’t want. This is where Sincero’s practical advice can help transform that for the reader. It’s about learning to become self-aware in our actions as well as our words so that we can fully embrace that abundant mindset, as our beliefs can be one of our greatest obstacles to success. When we have a strong mindset in place, it helps us to look beyond our need for approval and move forward with the plans we’ve set for ourselves. Learning to take those steps towards our desires is where the gold is. That is where confidence begins.

We need to believe in ourselves before we can expect others to believe in us. Sometimes I find that the most daunting act when stepping into our future selves is the first one. It’s just far too comfortable to remain where we are sometimes, whether that’s a good or bad place because at least we know what we’re dealing with. However, as Sincero points out, “You can have excuses or you can have success; you can’t have both.” Learning to expand that comfort zone with that initial step, builds a healthy and coachable mentality within ourselves. It works even better when we follow through all the way until the end. It will not only help us build our confidence, character, and resilience but will also propel us forward into (as Sincero calls it) “Our highest form of expression.”
“We’ve been raised to believe that you have to work hard to make money, and certainly there are times when this is true, but the real secret is you have to take huge, uncomfortable risks. You have to do stuff you’ve never done before, to make yourself visible, to acknowledge your own.”

Action is at the heart of confidence, and action is derived from believing in the possibility of our dreams coming true. It starts with visualizing the possibilities, believing in that vision, to then taking the initial steps toward our goals. Action when taken consistently, will result in momentum that will keep you moving forward with ease. With that ease, your belief will continue to develop and grow as results start coming in. If there is any intention to move forward in the direction of our dreams, we need to take inspired action. Start expanding that comfort zone. Show up for yourself time and time again so that you know that whatever happens, you will come out the other side. Confidence is built on taking steps, making mistakes learning to not judge ourselves, and being willing to try again in a different way. It requires us to be present, be coachable, and move forward with intention.
Consuming the right media will have a huge impact on our subconscious, but even more so, so will our environment. Whether it’s to do with creating or generating money, sometimes when we design a goal for ourselves that seems to be out of reach to the people around us, it can project onto the way we start to think and feel about our desires. Therefore it is imperative that you consciously choose who you share with, as well as what information you decide to share. It would be even more effective if you were able to surround yourself with those who inspire you or uplift you. These steps are vital, as this can kill your dreams before you’ve even taken the steps towards accomplishing anything yet.
“You are responsible for what you say and do. You are not responsible for whether or not people freak out about it.”

The building blocks that will lead to your desires can cost you; sometimes it’s friendships, family members, time, discomfort, flexibility, and other times money. However, investing in yourself will prove to consistently reinforce your inspiration so that you are consistently motivated to take action. The subconscious mind is an amazing thing; once we re-program ourselves, it’ll be as though believing in yourself should have been second nature. Although it will require commitment, personal development is essential to taking massive steps forward in your approach to transforming your life. It will become the foundation from which you will propel yourself, and sometimes that can result in a change of environment.
“What other people think about you has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them.”
― Jen Sincero, You Are a Badass
To transform your life, you are already committing to change; committing to changing your habits, your mindset, and the information you choose to absorb. Unfortunately, we can't experience massive transformation as a result of doing the same thing. We have to be willing to commit to becoming the person that we want to be, which requires us to rewire our mindset and take action towards becoming that person. Although transformation comes at a price, it also comes with its gifts; as you work through any challenges that come your way, you are slowly building confidence within yourself. Working through discomfort is where the gold is; it’s the process of expanding your comfort zone that will teach you how much you are actually capable of. Through tenacity and resilience, you will begin to trust yourself.
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
― Jen Sincero, You Are a Badass
Jen Sincero’s work is more than just a practical guide, it reinforces the mindset and personal actions that we can take toward creating the life of our desires. It shows us that we are capable of trying, and worthy of our desires. By creating the life of our dreams, we are not only proving to ourselves that there is more out there for us but will also prove to create a stronger, more confident person in ourselves. It’s a reinforcement of what is possible, and how we can take the steps towards opening up the possibilities for our life. I’ve enjoyed it several times over, and I hope if you get the chance, that you do too.
“Faith is required if you’re going to upgrade from rickety to rolling in it because faith is the part of us that dares to believe that an unseen, unproven, and often proven otherwise, brand-new, and awesome reality is within our grasp.”
